Lately

Started as a sketch of an outfit I saw and liked - the closest thing to a uniform I'd have.

The House of Mirth: Book Jacket

Since she had read The Age of Innocence, I have been wanting to get my sister a copy of The House of Mirth.
And since I was to make a gift of it, I wanted to find her the best edition available: one with not only an attractive cover, but crisp, sharp text that's easy on the eyes.
I found one that had the latter, but wasn't too happy with the cover.
So over the weekend, I designed and printed a book jacket.

The House of Mirth is written in the style of a novel of manners and in the first few chapters, several names pop-up in conversations and events. This makes it hard for the first time reader to keep track of characters names, their backgrounds and their relationship to each other. To solve this issue, I placed brief characters' profiles on the book jacket's inner flaps for instant access and easy reference.

Which one is it?

To be honest, I'd rather be the latter.

Illustration: There's a dog in your Sun

From Stephen King's novella. I liked the idea, but not the story; I imagined a different outcome.

Haq El Laileh

To celebrate Haq El-Laileh, Bullets & Butterflies approached me to come up with a package to hold chocolate favors to give to people visiting their store.
Last year I was also commissioned to design Haq El Laileh giveaways.

O, they may get over it but they'll never look the same

Sometime back in May, I was listening to an episode from Stuff You Missed in History Class entitled 'A Pure Food Father and His Poison Squad'. It talked about Harvey Wiley in late 1800s and his experiments with food additives which were likely to be toxic. The healthy men who volunteered to ingest poisons in their food were dubbed the 'Poison Squad' by the press.
Interesting topic aside, I tweeted to the podcast hosts that "Harvey Wiley and the Poison Squad" sounds almost like a band name, to which they agreed.
I mostly forgot about it until Harvey Wiley was mentioned again in a recent episode from NPR: Your Health. I began doodling logos and emblems, imagining what sort of identity the Poison Squad would have.
